Second content pack for GutterTrash now out on Itch!

PLEASE NOTE:

This is a FREE UPGRADE if you already own the game. If you have previously purchased the game, but get a prompt to buy when trying to download, DO NOT buy it again (unless you're feeling generous). Itch can be a little...special sometimes. If you can't download it normally from the main page, make sure you're logged in, then check your game library on Itch: you should be able to download it there without issue.

Turns out I lied, I am uploading this at midnight (or close to). Didn't want to keep people waiting any more than I had to. So here it is! Version 0.7.2, the second content pack for GutterTrash. To recap from the previous post, this pack contains:

-The center path, at last! A new area to explore, and potential "easy" "shortcut", though knowing how things turn out for Mezz, maybe not so much.

-Mahir's bad end, when Mezz loses to him, is now fully fleshed out!

-A new outfit!

-A new mini-game/gameplay loop

-New scenes! 4 new scenes, 4 mini scenes, 6 unique CG, and 28 new images overall.

The same save as before has been included in the "StarterSaves" folder if you need it. Just copy the files there into your save folder. Or, if you have an existing save right before leaving the ruins, or right after waking up at Mahir's, that will work too. You'll want to start there, as Mahir gives you something new you'll need.

Will talk a bit more about this pack once people have had a chance to dig in, but for now, enjoy, and let me know if there are any issues.

Hello! Is the 0.7.2 version on Itch.io  same as the 0.6.3 version on SubscribeStar? I couldn't wait for the public release and subscribed to your SubscribeStar to download the content of the second supplementary pack half a month ago. But now I noticed that the version numbers are different.

No, 0.7.2 has additional bug fixes. You can double-check the changelog in the readme file for the details. Content-wise they are the same though.

Two, problems? I guess?

1. I, know what I'm supposed to do, don't know how I'm supposed to do it. Basically. I need 10,00 (1,000?) Credits, so Rivera will let me through

But the Dobermans shake their heads, Mezz refuses to go to the bar, and going to the left alley. Is basically regular gameplay (like I don't need the credits)

2. Game runs at like, maybe 2fps for me, when I'm in an outside area. The game is still playable, but everyone moves really slowly. And interacting with stuff or continuing dialogue, tends to take a few tries

My laptop is low-end (HP 2000 Notebook), but it usually doesn't struggle with RPG Maker games (unless their MV)

I'm not sure if this problem can be fixed. And again, the game is playable. Just slow (like, it takes a few seconds for a character to move one step)

Unfortunately I use a lighting plugin which does eat into resources quite a bit. RPGMaker MV isn't super efficient on its own (compared to older ones like Ace), and layering that plugin on means there's a lot to process. I have tried to improve this a BIT by cutting down the Center Path map to JUST the area you explore, but this only does so much. I hate this too: I'm not doing anything super fancy, so it SHOULD be smooth and quick even on old hardware. But the problem is MV isn't really a compiled program, it's just a bunch of javascript running in a browser. This makes it easy to shuffle from one platform to another, but wildly inefficient. Unfortunately, people prioritize the convenience because most modern systems can just chew through all the inefficient code like it's nothing. But a 20 year old laptop isn't going to go so well, no. I don't know if you're in the US, but you can get a basic Optiplex tower for like $80 on Ebay that'll blow that laptop away, and should have no problem running the game. If you don't have access to Ebay though, fair enough.

HOWEVER, there is a workaround I just tested. Go to www\js in the game folder. Make a backup copy of plugins.js, then open the original file. Search for the chunk starting with "{"name":"OcRam_Lights"". Delete that entire chunk, down to ""false"}},". Save, and start the game. This will kill ALL lighting effects, and it'll look pretty crap. But it should run much faster. Maybe use this version of the file while you're in this area, then switch back to the original for the rest of the game.

As for gameplay: Alley bars are just flavor, you never go into them. The dobermans accept or reject on a 50/50 coin flip. You just have to keep finding them and asking.

(+1)

I don't really like replacing stuff that still works, which is why I still have my old laptop (I did finally replace the internal HDD with a SSD last month, though). And I just generally prefer laptops (despite using them at a desk...)

Anyways, that workaround does actually work! There's brief moments of lag, but other than that. Characters don't move like they're in a slideshow anymore. Also, I'm used to games looking like crap, for the sake of performance. So I don't mind

And right, gameplay. That explains it (and I guess Mezz mentioned going to the alleys, because he didn't want want to do the other way)

And , ok. Thanks for explaining it

(+1)

Excellent, glad that makes it playable at least.

I think my favourite part of this pack is how a part of it (spoiler) genuinely seems sad to me, something that a lot of non-risque games are unable to do. Most AAA games make me think, "I don't care what happens to these people!" whether they're the protagonists or antagonists, because they're so disgustingly unlikable, or the medium is so wrought with depressing events that it becomes exhausting to feel connected to the characters; a cartoon rabbit from a furry porn game managed to dredge feelings of sympathy, especially because he's equal parts cocky, cute, and genuinely good.

Part of the formula, in my opinion, is that Mezz is quite fast and strong, yet the hypnosis makes him believably vulnerable in relation to the story's logic. One of the new parts of this content pack really highlighted that, and in my opinion, was probably the saddest example.

That's very kind of you, thank you. I try to be realistic about what I'm making here, I know I'm not some master writer and I'm certainly not a master artist. But I try as best I can to make something I would want to play, something I DO want to play, at least for the first dozen bugtest runs. And more than that, something I can enjoy MAKING, that I can actually be excited about in the creative process. That means putting effort into the filthy bits, but also into the story, the setting, the characters. That's entirely selfish: it's just more fun, and genuinely EASIER for me to make this stuff if there's a little bit of depth to everything.

I've said a few times that so many people in the west makes porn games like they're a constant joke, like they're afraid to take anything seriously. And there IS a certain absurdity to the genre, like any genre it's somewhat artificial, and there's nothing wrong with having a little fun with that. But constantly being afraid to commit, to actually care about what you're making is disrespectful, to yourself and your audience. If something is worth doing, it's worth doing all the way, or at least as far as you can manage. But again, it's entirely selfish and self-serving. I try to write a little characterization because I NEED it for the explicit parts, it's what makes them hot. You know why the stereo-typical 90s porno sucks? Well, a lot of reasons, but one of them is that it's all fake. TOO fake. Movies are fake too, but they pull you in. They make you care. They make you forget it's just makeup and lighting and emotionally manipulative music because you're INTO it. And it doesn't take much to get there. The thinnest, most pathetic little story or bit of personality looks like Tolstoy next to most porn. Just a little bit and you're there.

When I discovered Japanese eroge many, many years ago, it was  revelation. Yes, it was goofy, there was humor, there were many, many cliches. But these people were taking what they did seriously, sometimes VERY seriously. I'd crack open some game looking to get off, and discover some wild eldritch horror story, or murder mystery, or sci-fi adventure. Sometimes so much so that the porn was almost incidental, but other times perfectly integrated together.

So I try to re-capture that, a little, in my own humble way. I'm not a game dev begrudgingly shoving some sex into things to draw attention, these games are about the explicit content, front and center. But that content needs characters, it needs setting, it needs gameplay. It needs INVESTMENT. I don't want to tell a story about a pizza guy who takes tips paid in sex, or a slut who's really slutty and she finds herself in all these situations which she resolves by being a huge slut and all the guys are like "wow, look at those knockers!" etc etc. I want my stuff to be less like a dirty joke and more like an actual fantasy someone with a working imagination might have. A whole bunch of fantasies, strung together in a semi-coherent setting. That's what I enjoy, so that's what I try to make. And so far, it seems like it clicks with people.

I should also say, more specifically to your point, I do try to be a BIT lighthearted, I don't want to be super intense or cruel with this stuff. But uh...*taps the name*, yunno. These games are about Bad Ends, about being defeated and losing control and being ground up and spit out as a pathetic parody of what you were. Because that's hot. I soften it a bit by putting it through the cartoon lens, like an old adventure cartoon. But there are still stakes, and that's what makes it enjoyable. And yeah, that vulnerability is a really, really fun part of the brain to tease. If you like it, and you haven't poked around Japanese games yet, I highly recommend it, especially the old stuff (pre 2012 or so). Whole lot of that. Like Goldilocks slamming shots, you will find some too strong, and some too weak, but there's some good ones out there for sure.

(+1)

Oh yeah, and I think that applies even to edgy media that doesn't pertain to pornography. It feels similar to poorly written character archetypes, especially villains, where they're made either evil to the point of stupidity, or they're made overtly goofy. If I had to guess, I'd say one of many reasons this is done is to say, "Hey! I don't support this! Please don't cancel me!"

I like what you said about making things only a bit lighthearted, as it really does seem that a balance between lighthearted and dreary is what allows players to invest into the emotional aspects of a game.

While there are certainly terrible indie games, whether they're pornographic or not, I still find myself enjoying the emotional aspects of indie games more than I do for AAA games.

PS: When you said "Goldilocks slamming shots," my dumb mind went to a really buff Goldilocks shooting hoops with the bears, before I realized "Oh! Alcohol!" I don't drink anymore, so that could be why I didn't associate "slamming shots" with drinking.

Oh definitely, for the most part the only hope of finding good games at all any more is in the small or "indie" space, and there are definitely some other small time porn games, here and elsewhere that I really like (Perfect Home of course, but Slash Cucumber XXX is also pretty great). But most here fall off into other zones, the "eh" zone of being really bland or the zone of just being incredibly unfinished and staying that way. Still a lot of space to grow, but it's a tough space, so a lot of people don't want to take the risk.

(+1)

So I guess there's gonna be a new underground soon? Or have I missed something?

Not sure I follow. Would you mind rephrasing?

(+1)

in the new zone, there are stairs going down but Mezz doesn't go in, so I guess it's for a future update?

Ah, those. No, that's just flavor, I wanted the alleys to exist for a reason, rather than just being alleys.

(+1)

Playing it rn and I gotta get through the desert first but I'm excited :3
Is there anything new with the boars at the beginning?

You mean just with this second pack? Nope, not until you get to Mahir.

(+1)

Yeah I did, and alright thank you! ^^

(+1)

Amazing content, I've played it and I believe I gone thru everything finishing the new area. Would the "job" at the strip club and the restaurant be explorable in the future or this is the end of it? Either way, I am very happy for the game so far. I am looking forward into what you can bring in the future. Thank you again for your effort. <3

Thanks! Yup, strip club is going to be the next/last pack, though I'm going to do something a little more with it that just the standard 3 scenes thing. Will talk about that more in a bit though.

(+1)
Have you considered adding a gallery mode to allow us to observe whether all CGs have been collected?

I have. The problem is there's no easy, obvious way to do this in RPGMaker. Most game devs just have a "room" with buttons you interact with to pull up each of the scenes, but I've been holding out for a while because I want an actual GALLERY, which is...harder to do than you might think. I'd also like it to be accessible from the main title screen, which again, not immediately easy to do with default RPGMaker. But, it is under consideration, and hopefully I'll be able to find/put together a system for it eventually. In the meantime though, there is a guide under the Sceneguide/Flowchart wiki that'll help you double-check at a glance if you have everything. It hasn't been updated to this latest pack yet, but should be before too long.

(+2)

Fantastic chapters so far, looking forward to what's next. A little question I had, but are there any plan's on a future chapter having a secondary character that gets hypnotised alongside the main one. Maybe a prisoner we meet or an old friend. Just an idea I thought would be really cool.

Maaaybe. But we'll have to wait and see.

(+1)

So gotten the new bad endings (very hot), but when I go through the middle section and talk to clients, I get the message that they nod their head but they disappear and I don't get any credits. I'm not able to get clients into the alleys until the third time. Is that supposed to happen or is it a glitch?

(1 edit)

No, that's definitely a glitch. You should be able to lead them back to the alleys. Double-checked and it seems to be working fine on my end. To be clear, are they following you back to the alley and then disappearing, or disappearing as soon as they nod? Very odd that this hasn't surfaced until now.

(+1)

Just disappear after I talk to them. I carried over the save file from the last update before I talk to Mahir so maybe it's that?

(2 edits)

Edit: Just finished testing: the save works fine. Was there anything at all unusual that happened before this? Did you get captured by one of the thugs first? That shouldn't break anything, but I'm just going through possibilities here.

Maaaybe? I have a hard time believing you're the first one to use that save on this release though, and I can't think why it would effect anything. Would you mind tossing a save where it's happening up somewhere and linking it? Meanwhile I'll play through on that save and double-check.

(+1)

Played through my save to confirm, second time around I got 4-5 clients to the alleys successfully before they started disappearing. might have gotten nabbed by a thug at that point. Didn't see any glitches, but exactly what I did leading up to it was talk to Mahir, pass on the fight, do the porno gig and unlocked the north section, went into the alley, went into the first thug encounter and took Skullcrusher, then did the middle section.

How do I send a file?

You'd have to upload it somewhere first, I usually just use catbox.moe. Then link it here by highlighting some text and clicking the little link icon below. Include two files, the save itself and your global.rpgsave just to be safe. Zip them up and upload that.

Ahh, ok, so it was working for a while this time? I guess I could test a little longer and see if I'm able to get to the full amount. But I'll wait for your save.

(+1)

Just had the exact same problem myself, with the disappearing clients

Hmm. Well I'll say the same to you as corbin: get to a point where it's reproducible, save, toss those two save files in a zip, and link it here so I can take a look.

(1 edit) (+1)

Hey I dont really get how to go down the center could someone please explain in detail how to do it. Thanks

It works on the same logic as other situations in the game: you lower Mezz's resistance via losses first.

(+1)

Oh ok thanks

(+1)

When I copy previous saves into the new version's save folder, they don't appear in the game, including the StarterSave. That is, until I make an in-game save of prefered name (e.g. file 16, same with the starter), then use prefered save to replace the new one, then they would work as wished. Is this how transfer saves always worked?

Before you save in-game, the save folder doesn't exist. Theoretically if you create it, name it right, and copy BOTH files from the starter save folder, that should work. But starting up the game and creating an initial save to make sure it's set, THEN copying the save files over works too.

(+1)

I didn't realize I should copy the globalsave file as well. Thank you!

(+1)

This is amazing. How do you target the horny parts of my brain with such precision? Honestly I think this game has to be my favourite out of all lewd media I have seen so far.

Hey, I'll say what I always say: I try to make a game I would buy, and enjoy. If it's not getting me going, it's not good enough. And so far, it seems like if it hits me right, it hits a lot of others too. Which is great!

(+1)

Fantastic job. It's clear that you put your heart and soul into what you're doing, it is not obvious in those days where games and other artistic media are treated as mere ways to make money. I hope this adventure endures as much as possible. I would like to support you better money-wise, but student, "it rhymes" well with broke, so my support in that sense is limited. Hope to see the next update "soon". about that, Gutter Trash will receive another update or we should expect a third title?

Thanks, really appreciate it! And no worries, I definitely know the difficulty of being a student. As far as updates, yes, almost certainly doing one more (though a bit more modest), and then on to Chapter 3.

(+1)

so to..start the middle part what do i gotta do?..i cant put on the bunny suit and the guys in the middle tell me too F off..did i do something wrong? XD

(-1)

Well first, if you started at the right point, you shouldn't have the bunny suit, but a new outfit. Then it's like other situations in the game: Mezz is hesitant to do something. What usually convinces him?

(+1)

Thank you for all the hardwork, it's been a fun journey.
So a question, when I move the save file toward the latest version, am I playing the latest version while continuing the old save files?

Not sure I get what you're asking. You can take a save file from your previous version and play it in this one, yes, as long as it's before meeting Mahir for the first time.

(+1)

I get it now, thanks :)

(+1)

Man I love you.

Aw! Hey, I just make dumb porn games on the internet. Glad you're liking it though.

(+2)

Man, 2 seconds into the new stuff, and I see exactly what you meant about this being the cutest update so far. Once again, kudos for what you've made here.

No problem! It is a little shorter than the last, but not by as much as I expected; as usual, it ended up filling out a lot as I worked on it.
