Content pack progress update

It's been a while, but it's finally time for an update. As of now all the main, scene-related art for the update is done. I may still make a few other small things and tweak some existing assets, but the vast majority of the art-related work is done. This makes up about 90-95% of the time and effort sink for the pack, so we're getting close. Now it's on to some programming and writing, but again, I don't expect those to take anywhere near as long. As always, I make no guarantees, but I'm still shooting for an end-of-October release, and right now that still seems entirely do-able.

It's also occurred to me that I might want to clarify how SubStar will work with this update: anyone supporting the game there at $10 or more will get the pack on release, the $5 tier won't (Everyone else that's bought the game will get the pack two weeks later). I think that was somewhat implied, but I want to make sure there's no ambiguity there.

Thanks to everyone for the continued support, feedback and bug reports, and enthusiasm. Some people are REALLY eager for this pack (as well they should be!), and that helps keep my own enthusiasm high as I put it together.

excellent development! your work is phenomenal! Please keep working hard, we are rooting for you! Thank you, I'm very happy to have discovered your project!

Aw, thanks! Definitely will.

Wait so having bought the game here for 10$ means we get the update later? Wtf?

[Edit: Had to do some housekeeping here unfortunately. As I've said previously, feedback, including (often especially) criticism is fine, as long as it's meaningful and civil. In this case, all meaningful information from both sides was covered in the first few posts. After that it was effectively just spam. Voicing issues with the game is fine. Continuing to do so after I've made my position clear, in an attempt to harass me and/or the fans of the game, is not. ]

[Edit the 2nd: Appreciate the support and reports(!), but I'm going to leave the rest of this up as the information may still be useful going forward.]

There's a modest delay, yes. Early access has always been only real reward for the SubscribeStar supporters, and this in particular was announced quite a while ago, shortly after GT first came out, so it shouldn't come as a surprise. Early access for monthly supporters followed by a later public release is a fairly common model, and the wait is often considerably longer than two weeks. Everyone who bought the game will still get the new pack, a considerable amount of new content, for free. They'll just have to wait a little longer.

Oh yeah I can't wait to see this model come to the mainstream. Imagine buying Star Citizen and receive to the face "You don't give me money everyday so get fucked", that's a huge mentality we should all enforce for the future XD

(+1)(-9)

And obviously it's sarcasm. This model of "patreons first" is only acceptable for games that are free. For this model, I'd rather be refunded my 10$ and all those 10$ that have been given from this website, and that we get the content for free here and just wait those 14 days then.

Different people will be comfortable with different support models obviously, and if you dislike this one, you're certainly free to avoid further support in the future. But again, this was first floated four months ago, in a dev log you commented on, and there were no concerns raised then, nor after, until yours just now. I fully expected some people might not jive with it, which is why I asked for input when initially proposing it, but the reaction was almost entirely positive or neutral, so I went forward with it, and will probably continue to do so. I feel it's a reasonable way to reward those who are putting extra support behind the game while still ensuring that everyone who bought it gets the extra content, for free, eventually. If that isn't for you, I can respect that, but for now, this is the way I plan to release updates.

dunno it's always easier to know how I feel in front of the fact. Good job on spitting on all those who supported the project I guess. Further enhanced feeling by the fact that like anyone else I've been waiting for months for this update and that you always told it was for end of october but suddenly it isn't anymore for everyone.

so I just gotta wait to weeks after its out is all?

wicked nice game and art have a good one :D

(-3)

What do you mean "for free"? I already paid for the game? Is it not a payment?  I don't think "for free" means what you think it means.

"Everyone who bought the game will still get the new pack, a considerable amount of new content, for free."

I think the meaning is about as unambiguous (and accurate) as possible.

hurray

Good job chief! Is it really true It'll be a meaty update? Perhaps in more ways than one? Hehe

Good to see the game being well taken care of! Is it too early to ask how many chapters you got planned out?

(1 edit) (+3)

Thanks! Yeah, should nearly double the scenes, depending on how you count it.

As for chapters, the plan has always been five, though as always, we'll see as we go.

Oh, so great to hear about this game after all this time! I can imagine that the artwork may be one of the most time-consuming parts of the making in the game, thus is awesome to see that it's mostly done with. It's good to see that everything is going on track, I was beginning to worry that something had happened. Sadly, it's not uncommon to see delays in indie games due to personal struggles and such...

Funny to see the finished piece has the chance to be considered a hallowen present for some of us! lol

(+2)

Yeah, Halloween's a favorite, so I almost wanted to do some appropriate art, but there DEFINITELY isn't time for that.

And yeah, that's why I figured it was time for an update. Won't be too much longer here, but wanted to keep people in the loop.

Good shit!!!! Hoping for smooth sailing from here

so is the early release only for those who payed 10$ on substar or it that also if you payed 10$ here on itch? i only hayed on here so i'm hoping its on both but if not i'll be looking forward to it on the later releas

Early release is just for $10 and up tier on SubStar, correct. I don't really have bonus stuff there otherwise, so it's my way of doing something for the people that support on a monthly basis. Otherwise, if you've just purchased the game itself, you'll be able to download the new version from here 14 days after the early release goes up on SubStar.

(+1)

Lookin forward to it :D

So, assuming you meet the end of October release date. Those of us who aren't on sub-star should expect it to be available early/mid November right?

Exactly. If (IF) it drops for Substar on Oct 31, it'll release for everyone who's bought it here on November 14th. The initial release is fluid depending on how things go, but the wider release is just a 14 day countdown timer.

This update post has just made me even more excited, thank you so much for your amazing work! <3
